RickyTims-YearWord-Grow - Week 1
I chose my year word even before January - GROW. This was an unexptected photo. I had to water a poinsettia and after moving it, I noticed this leave had fallen on a little runner rug. It was not in this position, but I placed it there because i saw the vine and leaves and thought it would be whimsical and my brain thought “power of one”. I quickly took one shot and moved on with my day.
I kept trying to think of what I might shoot to represent GROW. I had original thought of putting a pinto bean in a cup on the window sill - but… no pinto bean, not close to a store, that plan went by the wayside. I though of finding someone with a growth chart for their kid, but everyone I know and kids are miles away.
Later in the day it hit me, this photo could represent my year word. I cloned out a few dog hairs (thankfully only a few), and in Photoshop created a duplicate layer that I blurred quite a bit. I then used a huge soft erase brush to erase around the red leaf and then used the Hue Saturation to change the color of that blurred layer just a bit. Flattened and saved. Back in Lightroom I used a gradient to slightly darken vignette the upper left quadrant. I think I like it because it was unexpected - and maybe that’s the start of my growing. To expect the unexpected.
